How to Save Your Own TikTok Videos
If you made a TikTok video, keeping a copy of the original file is useful for backups, editing, and reposting your own work. The most reliable option is to save the video on your device before publishing it.
Save a video before posting
- Open TikTok and create or edit your post.
- On the posting screen, open More options.
- Turn on Save to device, if the option is available.
- Publish the post. Check your device's Photos or Gallery app for the saved copy.
Download a post that is already published
- Open your video in the TikTok app.
- Tap Share.
- Tap Save video, if that option appears.
TikTok's built-in download option depends on the post and its settings. If Save video is missing, do not try to bypass the creator's download choice. For your own video, check whether the original is still in your phone's gallery or in the app or editing project where you created it.
Where to find the file
- iPhone or iPad: check the Photos app and the Recents album.
- Android: check Gallery or Google Photos, and the Downloads folder if your browser saved the file.
- Computer: check the browser's Downloads list and your Downloads folder.
The exact location can vary by device, app version, and download method. If you cannot find the file, open your device's recent downloads or files list and check the date.
Keep a good backup
Keep the original video in a folder you control and, if it matters to you, make a second backup in a trusted cloud drive or external storage. A downloaded copy may differ from the original project in resolution, editing flexibility, or included audio.
Respect privacy and permissions
Only save and reuse videos you own or have permission to use. A publicly viewable post is not automatically free to republish. Respect the creator's settings, privacy, copyright, and applicable platform rules.
